In the city
People pull back layers of each other slowly
savouring the quiet solitude in moving gradually
amongst so much swiftness

In the city
people ask deliberate questions of unknown others
they do not wish to know everything at once
like an echo of city life
they do not wish to conflate new discoveries
with old habits

In the city
there is an electric sexuality
that pervades exchange
even on the subconscious plane
it energizes moments which,
in the country,
would remain nameless

In the city
there are so many people
trying to make sense
of so many other people
and in those glimpses of knowing
humanity dwells
